Lodge History
The Lodge warrant was granted on the 10th of April 1839. The first meeting was held in on the 7th of May 1839 and the Lodge was consecrated on the 20th of September 1839.
On the 18th of February 1845, it was resolved that three chairs for the Master and his Wardens be obtained. These chairs are still in use in our lodge room today.
In 1863 the lodge number was changed from 676 to 462.
A set of working tools were obtained on the 1st of March 1866.
The lodge has sponsored seven daughter lodges and four grandaughter lodges during its 164 year history.
On the 5th of December 1895 the WM and Past Masters initiated six candidates in one evening!
In 1919 Bank Terrace Lodge and the Lodge of Rememberance arranged for the purchase of the present buildings for masonic purposes.
In september 1945, it was resolved that the arrears of subscriptions for the years 1942-44 of Bro T E Fletcher be waived due to him being a prisoner of war in Japenese hands. Bro fletcher returned home in december 1945.
In 1982, another piece of history was made when the Lodge had its first Grand Lodge Officer, WBro D Toulmin, receiving the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Sadly he died in March 1983 having been a Grand Lodge Officer for less than 12 months.
Bank Terrace continues to flourish today against the general trend of decreasing membership in freemasonry.
All visitors and old friends are always made most welcome to our masonic evenings and we believe that the fellowship and warmth is highly regarded across the province and beyond.
